Megan and I read Nancy's article tonight. Hmm. Megan thought that, bar some exaggeration for effect, it was a pretty accurate picture of American life. I think it's an anthropologist making fun of anthropoligists. Whether you agree with his picture of 21st century America or not, the author certainly did a good job discrediting a 'science' that basically spends its time making up stories to fit artifacts they find in the dirt. Like any discipline, some anthropology is disciplined and methodical, but some is outright guesswork. I think the man, besides poking fun, is reminding anthropologists not to take themselves too seriously -- reality is subjective. And why didn't he mention TV or video games? What a contradictory activity for a body worship culture!
